Hello out there!
We are on day 3 of hunkering down indoors aside from quick grocery and post office trips. It’s socked in with smoke here and over a hundred degrees.1 Miko goes outside, licks her lips, and comes back in. Elsa has just decided to poop in the house, which, I mean, I totally get, but still 🫠 Instead of walks, they chase scrunched up trader joe’s bags around the house, hunting for bits of salmon jerky.
This is how it is: there is big news (the world is burning) and there is small news (I found a new yogurt I like; we got Miko to stop licking the cut on Elsa’s back by putting them in tiny jerseys; we’re on season 5 of Suits; the tree outside my window is bright green and the one across the street is green but dusty, and the one behind that is a gray silhouette).
It helps, when the big news is too big, to take note of the small news too.
One bit of small news: We were able to donate $388 to the Maui mutual aid fund this week. Thanks for being a part of it. Together we’ve funded $4,902 to communities we love this year. Can you see why I glow when I think about you all?

NEW ART
My little sister and I grew up, years apart, in a storm of a family. This is a conversation we had when we were beginning to reconnect as adults, wresting the family narrative off of our tender memories of what actually happened. Now she’s one of my closest friends.
I made this piece after she sent me this trailer for the movie Mutt, which is a story about a trans guy who reconnects with his younger sister. He says, “I want you to know that I didn’t just disappear for no reason” and I felt it in my whole body.
”Reasons,” 2023. Prints available.

I wrote this yesterday. Today it’s not quite as hot, and the smoke, while still being everywhere, is not as thick.
