How to get home + Pride SALE
Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of this newsletter and my 11 year anniversary of coming out. Each time I string together the loose beads of my history into a bit of writing I feel more now and less then. This year’s writing is below with some new art.
But before I sign off, I wanted to let you know that now through Sunday is the Sliding Scale Pride Sale for my queer supporters and friends. I did this last year and it was really wonderful. There’s so much Pride stuff out there being sold by and to non-queer people and it all starts to feel a bit weird.
🏳️🌈Pride is for us, not just about us🏳️🌈
So, if you are queer (and if you’re wondering, yes! you’re queer enough) use whichever code makes the art accessible to you and/or feels like a treat. IAMQUEER10 for 10% off — IAMQUEER20 for 20% off — IAMQUEER30 for 30% off — IAMQUEER40 for 40% off. Valid on prints. More details in today’s post.

I came out for the first time 11 years ago today, on summer solstice 2011. I now know that my dog Elsa, who we met last year, was somewhere in the world about to be born.
She and I both were heading into some hard years and didn’t know it. Now, we both have panic attacks and a bad gut feeling about men. We both jump at little noises and aren’t very inclined to play.
But we found each other. Now, in the middle of the night when she has a bad dream she crawls up into my arms and falls back to sleep with her head on my pillow. Now, she runs up the driveway like a rocket and spins at the door. She can find her way home from anywhere in the neighborhood.
When I came out 11 years ago I immediately lost a lot, trading in a familiar life for a handful of seeds. For years, my joy was encased in a shell of fear- to keep it safe, which kept it small. In other words, queer joy, gender euphoria, all the good stuff we are born for, starts, often, as a kernel with a few small roots.
Listen: it grows. Now, I know how to get home from anywhere.
Happy pride 🏳️🌈
