What stands out in the dark
Everything I paint lately has a deep blue background. I feel like I am looking to see what stands out in the dark and trying to paint it in.
Before we get into the art though, I wanted to let you know that tonight and tomorrow are the last days of free shipping and the 15% off code. Thanks to everyone who has ordered - I hope your new art keeps you good company.

THE LATEST
A singular 2021 Winter Twig. I took this piece into high texture zone and experiemented with making something I liked, messing it up, and then integrating the mess. I really love where it landed.
Last year I made a whole series of these, but I think this year I’m just doing this one original. (I did though just rerelease the 2020 winter twig prints which I’ll leave up for a little bit in case you’d like to collect or give some winter art.)
THE PAST BELONGS TO THE PRESENT
The past belongs to the present To read and make of it a life and a meaning we can stand on. To make peace To make love out of the leftover pieces To make a place to rest
I painted this one on the back cover of my last notebook after I finished it up. It was Vol 26 since I started numbering my journals about ten years ago.
WINTER NIGHT
I’ve thought a lot about how it might be possible to create a sense of safety when my nervous system is used to something else. Painting cozy, easy spots is like a meditation on the feeling, and exercise of agency, a small pleasure.
I shared the painting process for this first Winter Night piece on IG (saved in my stories now) and I was at first surprised by all the feedback I got. These pieces felt very winter snug to me, but the elements of solitude, open space, moonlight, darkness and visibility all seemed to hit us all differently. What is cozy, what feels safe, is super personal. What feels cozy/safe to you?
