So mysterious
I have been focusing on painting this week (see below!) and letting logistics just float off incomplete and hoping for the best. Sometimes this is what it takes to get paint onto paper and I’m willing to do it.
One just-as-well implication of this is that stickers are still up in the shop until I get a chance to update the site. I also still have shipping set to free for US orders $50+. So now’s the time if you wanted to peruse some tiny art or stock up with some free shipping!
Hope you are doing okay out there. It’s August. We’ve made it this far. Slow breath. Soft breath.

Algorithm-Free Art
Here’s some of the work I’ve shared since my last email. I’d like to make it easier to connect away from Instagram and the social media algorithms. If you know someone who’d like to see my art outside of the feed, feel free to forward this on to them!
SO MYSTERIOUS / AUG 5 2021
So mysterious ✨
Thoughts on believing people when they show you who they are
Thoughts on feeling like a fake when they see more in you than you think is there
Thoughts on how we frame ourselves and what it means to tell the truth
Thoughts on code switching
Thoughts on the stories we invent on the little we see
This one comes from many places
ANOTHER SELF PORTRAIT / AUG 2 2021
I paint self portraits to practice treating myself as the archetypal “person.” It is liberatory, sweet and challenging.
I’ve been thinking about how I do this in all my art. I am never making art to be relatable, but to tell the truth. And in making work about my experience and feelings I assert that my experience - my queerness, my race, my questions - are human.
Read more about this and see the painting process in my saved story on IG.
PLACES I’VE NEVER BEEN / AUG 3 2021
I realized about a month ago that I had almost stopped painting besides commissions and art for my patrons. Running the logistical side of things was taking all my time. So I made the big decision to hire someone to help me fulfill orders and manage some of the details. I was hesitant to even consider this for a long time because of the money. But it’s been so, so worth it. I’ve been able to get out my sketchbook and work through new ideas, like the large painting I auctioned off for @translawcenter, the self portrait I shared yesterday, and these house paint & acrylic landscapes. I’m having fun. I’m feeling curious. I’m making a mess and using my supplies freely again.
If you’d like to see the “process” for making this piece, I made a reel on Instagram showing it!
