I’ve been writing about grief and time.
It’s gathered for you below. Thanks so much for reading along. I hope you’re having an easy day so far.
News: Somehow tomorrow is December, so that makes today the last day to join or upgrade your patreon tier if you’d like this month’s print or sticker.

I’ve been busy, a thin shield over grief, which is a wild weather.
In the piece I wrote for my patrons to send out with this piece I noted “how one grief is never one grief, but a heartbreak disco ball pointing out everything.” This image came to me and has stuck, as I see the glints all around.
Grief one moment to the next, 2021
Available exclusively to November patrons.
When I was going through a hard time in my life, I carried around Mary Oliver’s poem “Dogfish” in my pocket and would go on long walks, whispering it over and over, memorizing the whole thing. Its phrases still surface in my mind:
“I want to be kind. And nobody, of course, is kind, or mean, for a simple reason.”
and,
“If they don’t waste time looking for an easier world, they can do it”
And mostly:
“I wanted the past to go away”I’m sure I had that line in mind when I painted the series of paintings that this piece was part of. I called it “Where the past ends” and it felt like a wish, that it would be possible to mark the spot with that bit of red in the middle, to see a separation between then and now.
I made it into a sticker for myself, to paste onto the cover of my notebook where I write. It’s been a good friend to me and so I chose it for the November Patreon sticker.
This is a larger than usual 4” sticker. If you’d like one at the patreon rate (29% off) join us on either print+sticker tier before the end of the month (today!). It’s a sweet way to get fresh art, at a discount, with free shipping. Massive thanks to current patrons: You make this all possible.
Lastly, Elsa seemed sad today, so I laid on the floor with her for a bit, and she seemed to like that. Here’s a photo I took of her, soft and melancholy. Sending it your way in case you too could use a little time on a nice cool floor with a friend- we’re here with you.
Thank you for sharing so much of yourself in your paintings and stickers. I love seeing Elsa, too! Today was a melancholy kind of day for me as well.
