Three things today 🌱
1) there’s a new check in up
2) prints are now up in the shop of my new painting called “A long walk”
3) I want to tell you a story about Elsa and Miko:
Over the weekend, Elsa’s back leg weakness took a turn for the worse and she has not been able to walk since. She sits wherever we set her down. She has started crying, which we’ve never heard before. We hold her up at the waist so she can go to the bathroom or to help her balance to take a few steps with her front legs. We’ve ordered her a set of wheels, but they won’t be here until next week. She’s been sad.
Miko is now beginning to understand what is going on and she wants to do something about it. She brings her toys to Elsa. She drags over her dish of food and tries to give it to her. She drops off the best chews in Elsa’s bed.
We lift Elsa into bed and Miko comes to hold her. She’s doing this right now again in fact as I write this.
And today, when Elsa had an anxiety episode and nothing Danielle or I tried could help her to stop shaking, Miko did something she’s never done before: she gently climbed on top of Elsa and used the soft pressure of her body along Elsa’s to soothe the shakes. She laid there for ages, as Elsa’s tremoring slowly dissipated. Miko didn’t get up until Elsa had gone soft and started to snore.
There is enough sweetness to meet all the loss and pain.

I want to tell you a story
Oh my gosh this was such a sweet story. Thank you for sharing. Miko supporting Elsa is just 🥹🥹. I had a corgi who lost function of his hind legs and it was really sad...I did get him a wheelchair to go for walks, but it wasn’t one we could keep on him. It must be so hard for a dog who’s instinct is to wander and explore to not be physically able to. Wishing Elsa and the family all the best
Sounds like my pup when she had an IVDD episode. Some meds and 8 weeks of crate rest fixed her up, thankfully, since she doesn’t have a Miko. 💗
