I like who you are becoming
This week I made one very sweet piece about love (hello my valentines), and then shared a full thread of pieces that are basically love outtakes, sharing the messier side of things.
I’ve also been playing in my sketchbook more lately. I created Easy Does It as a way to support those in my community who wanted to nurture their creative practices and now am realizing that it’s just what I needed too. Having a sense of community around creating for fun and finding what kind of marks feel good has given me so much energy. Here are some quick sketches I made of Elsa:

FEB 14, 2022 - I LIKE WHO YOU ARE BECOMING
I made a version of this piece a few weeks ago as a birthday gift to a friend I’ve loved since 1997. I always think about how amazing it is that we both have changed so many times over the years in compatible ways.
I know that sometimes as we change love changes too, and that’s normal and ok. But today I’m thinking about long haul love, the kind that is made up of the two of us, yes, but also the dozens of people we’ve been over the years. The kind that sees our stories in context. The kind that holds each of us lightly enough to allow us to become and become again, while holding us tightly enough to know we’ll be there to love each other three transformations from now.
Here is to love making us larger, making us more of ourselves. Here’s to love that feels like freedom, that feels like morning. The kind with just as much curiosity as history, that holds the open doors just as easily as the inside jokes. To love that celebrates us as we change, however surprising it is.
I made this print for my February patrons. Join us if you’d like one.
FEB 15, 2022 - TO BALANCE OUT THE ROMANCE:
Some notes on my many decades of messy situations. Yesterday I made a sappy post about long love (that unicorn) but here’s the rest of the story 🥴
(I posted ten, view the full thread here)

What is gouache and why does Brit love it so much?
Let's get the hardest part out of the way. In US English it's pronounced "gwash": one syllable, just smash all the sounds together. Think "quash" but with a g, and a happier connotation. Read the rest here
Find your way into a practice that is all your own
I was saying how I like to split a page up into smaller shapes and paint inside of them. I thought I'd share more on why I think this works for me, as a way to lower the barrier to beginning as well as to learn my supplies and my preferences.
I do this a lot. Probably 2/3 or more of any given sketchbook of mine is made of either swatching or thumbnails. Earlier it was more swatching, now it's more of these little squares. Here's what I love about them:
Easy Does It is open to everyone. If you’re interested in a practical and gentle way to foster a creative practice, or if you’d like to just read about how I go about it, consider joining us. I’d love to have you.
