Explaining Myself
I love being queer
Happy Pride! I love being queer. Are you queer? Do you love it too?
Coming out, or using gender and sexuality language to describe ourselves, is a creative act: more like poetry, less like taxonomy. Our words are living, changing things and we get to build a home out of them (and remodel as needed!).

Having precise words for ourselves doesn’t make us real — we are, words or not — but it does make us not alone: a word means someone else was here, which opens the inner world to an outside one. Every word is an inheritance. Someone else loved themselves, and loved the possibility of us, enough to speak us into being.
Heirlooms don’t always fit like a glove, but they are still precious. We get to love what we have been given, use it all freely, and honor that tradition by continuing to create words that speak our lives with dignity, clarity, joy.
Our words are malleable tools we can use to connect and communicate, not standards for inclusion or validity.
Happy pride - I love you, and I’m so glad you’re here.
love,
Brit
Free Art & Nominate a Queer Group
ps. We’re doing an extra big Pride Free Art Party! You can enter on Instagram, AND - we also are going to send a set of queer art and stickers to a community group/club/org/clinic/etc. You can nominate groups in the comments — tag them if you can and write a few words about why you’d love them win. (Try to phrase it so I know it’s a nomination and not just tagging a friend in the comments 😊)

Omg I love the new 'the label the life' image!! Thanks for creating and sharing. Also, I haven't been on Instagram in ages but I'm going to travel there just to nominate an awesome queer org per your invitation. xoxo 🌈💖☀️
Was having a bit of an “am I queer enough” breakdown at pride today so thank you for this. I needed it
