Algorithm-Free Art
Hello out there!
I’ve been over here making sourdough bread like it’s 2020, feeling my feelings, working through patchy sleep/nightmares, and watching The Circle S3. Oh, and painting as much as I can. Most of it has been color swatches and crayon drawings of my dog, so I’ve tried to pare it down the things that are more interesting. I hope you find something you enjoy.

Algorithm-Free Art
Here’s some of the work I’ve shared since my last email. I’d like to make it easier to connect away from Instagram and the social media algorithms. If you know someone who’d like to see my art outside of the feed, feel free to forward this on to them!
THINGS CAN GO RIGHT, 2021
It’s realistic to imagine all the ways things could work out. I’ve spent my life thinking it’s naïve to think this, but it’s not. The odds are in our favor to heal a bit more, to continue to adapt, to feel safer and more at home, even in this world.
So many little things will go just right today. There are sweet and soft and thrilling moments with our names on them. We have so much art still to make. There are people we’ve yet to meet who we will come to love with all our hearts.
This print is exclusively available through Patreon this month. If you’d like a copy, you can sign up for a print before the end of September.
ANOTHER DAY, 2021
I’m thinking about how every sweet moment of my brief life will be in a changing and volatile climate-
About falling in love during a pandemic, while over four and a half million loved people die-
About feeling so happy with who I am in a world that doesn’t want me to exist-
About how long this list could be,
The ways everything is wrong and still:
summer tomatoes,
the way my tiny dog runs to catch up,
new paint,
holding hands with my wife for a long walk, the morning after the smoke clears.
I also made a process video for this piece with a voiceover and it felt really soothing to watch so I replayed it for myself during a panic attack and it helped! Not sure if this is what my therapist means by self-soothing, but it’s the internet age and here we are. If you want to check it out, here it is.
THE TIME, 2021
So much time lost,
but also so much gained.
What now?
Grieve, and
live.
SEPTEMBER PATREON STICKER / ABSTRACT PRIDE FLAG, 2021
I made new *sticker tiers* on Patreon. I’m pretty excited to choose the design each month for these new tiers! If you’d like a high quality, weather- and dishwasher-friendly Pride Flag sticker to add to your life, join us before the end of the month!
A note on stickers in general- I’ve found it works best for me to release stickers in limited quantities twice per year (typically around pride and the winter holidays). I share them in events I called “Sticker Day” and they sell out pretty quickly. I decided to try out these Patreon tiers as I often receive requests for stickers in the off season and thought this could be a way to respond and while keeping it sustainable on my end. Hope you enjoy!
And don’t think I’d sign off without at least a little snapshot of my color swatches and crayon drawings of Elsa, the sweet little bundle of sleep, who, when the repair guy was here, woke up to gently bite the toe of his steel toe boot and defend us!
