When I tried to get rid of my sadness, it took so much with it.
I tried to be bright and not tired, and just ended up very, very tired.
I avoided heartbreak by trying to care less, and ended up caring less: I stopped adoring, my curiosity dulled.
I apologized for crying, tried to get it together, and lost access to the love that was at the heart of my grief in the first place.
I have this one chance to be a body. Bodies are full of joy and sadness. I know how to turn down the volume, to leave my self for a while, which is okay to do. But I don’t want half a life. I want to be awake to it. All of it. Even this.
love,
Brit
